How to Take Advantage of Forex Futures

How to Take Advantage of Forex Futures

Every day, many institutions and individual traders exchange currency on the foreign exchange or forex (see resources section for more details). Anytime someone buys or sells currency on forex, they are participating in the spot market. This simply means that they are exchanging one currency for another at the time the trade is made. Although this explanation may seem redundant, there is another way to trade currencies.

Forex futures allow traders to enter into an agreement to buy or sell a currency at a predetermined date and exchange rate. While there are many similarities between the spot market and forex futures, there are also some notable differences between the two. Because of these differences, some people may find it more advantageous to trade forex futures instead of participating in the spot market.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Compare the spreads. Spreads in forex futures are usually smaller than those in the spot market. Even so, you have to pay a commission when trading futures, so the costs are ultimately about the same. Its still a good idea to look into both options because you may be able to cut costs slightly.

  2. Step 2

Investigate the costs involved with interest rates. When trading currencies, you either pay money or earn money based on the different interest rates of the currencies you’re trading. In the spot market, the amount you pay when you owe money is more than the amount you receive when you are owed money. Additionally, there are some cases where you are charged a fee no matter which side of the equation you’re on. With forex futures, the amount you pay and the amount you earn on any given interest rate difference are equal.

  3. Step 3

Understand the difference in transparency. Although the forex spot market is bigger than the forex futures market, spot forex is actually a fragmented market involving many parties with various levels of access to prices and information. Also, if you’re trading spot forex through a dealer, you are effectively trading against that dealer because they automatically take the other side of any trade you make. This doesn’t necessarily mean that unethical activity is taking place, but it certainly provides some incentive for unscrupulous dealers to engage in such activity.

On the other hand, forex futures are traded over several central exchanges including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in the US. This setup provides two distinct advantages over the spot market. First of all, you are not ‘trading against the house’ like you would be with a dealer. Second, because trading takes place over centralized exchanges, it is much easier for traders to obtain accurate information on statistics such as volume and open interest.

  4. Step 4

Use forex futures to hedge yourself against unwanted currency fluctuation. For example, if you’re doing business in another country, you can establish a futures contract in the appropriate currency pair. This will protect you against potential losses resulting from changes in the exchange rate.

Tips & Warnings
  • While there are notable differences between the spot market and the futures market, trading either one involves a substantial amount of risk.

Tips & Warnings
  • The largest financial market in the world is FOREX (the Foreign Exchange Market). FOREX is the trading of one world's currency for another. For example, you can trade U.S. dollars for Japanese yen.
  • FOREX is part of the 24-hour Interbank Market, which is a bank-to-bank currency market. This market actually follows the sun around the world as it moves from one major banking area to another.
  • Since you are using your computer to work from home, you can write off what you pay for Internet access as a business expense.

How to Gain Valuable Forex Experience

The foreign currency exchange, or Forex, is a dynamic and extremely viable alternative to the current state of the stock market which is now available to anyone with a credit card and internet connection. Although trading on the Forex is in many ways easier to follow than trading on the stock market, you still need to know what you're doing and you still need to practice on a real account with real money. Read this article for ways to gain that valuable knowledge and experience without losing your shirt or risking the rent money. Best of Luck!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • credit card
  • good internet connection (you can get away with a good wireless connection)
  • patience
  1. Step 1

EDUCATE YOURSELF: The first thing you need to do (and I can't stress this enough) is to fully understand exactly what the foreign currency exchange is and how to trade on it. It's not exactly like the stock market and typically follows its own set of rules. What causes the stock market to fluctuate doesn't necessarily do the same for the Forex. Go to www.babypips.com for a complete, web-based, course that will teach you all of the in's and out's of the foreign exchange. The good news is that it's 100% free of charge! The bad news is that it's very extensive and therefore very long. But you can rest assured that, upon completing the course, you will fully understand how to trade currency for profit. And that's not an exaggeration!

  2. Step 2

DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS: Unlike learning how to trade on the stock market, most Forex brokerages will give you a free practice account to experiment with using none of your own money. Go to either www.fxcm.com or www.forex.com for an excellent, hands-on demo trading account where you'll get to trade using the exact same platform and spreads used by those with real accounts. You will need to download the trading platform offered, but this is also 100% free of charge.

  3. Step 3

TAKE THE PLUNGE: Once you feel comfortable trading the Forex with your free account, it's time to apply for an actual account. However, instead of applying for a standard or mini lot account (these usually require anywhere between $200 and $500 initial deposits), apply for what's called a micro lot account. Do your own research if you like, but most micro lots require between $10 and $100 initial deposit to start. Go to www.forexmicrolot.com for FXCM's micro lot version. They'll even give you a micro lot demo account to try out first. FXCM micro requires only $25 to start, once you're approved. And you can make that deposit with a credit card! Micro lots allow you to trade nickles and dimes, so you're not going to risk a whole lot of money and you get to see how the Forex works. For example, in order to lose that initial $25 with FXCM, you'll have to make an extremely stupid trade that you end up holding onto for days. That's not the case with standard or mini lots where you can lose your entire deposit in minutes.

  4. Step 4

KEEP LEARNING: Once you're all set, keep up on the latest Forex indicators at www.dailyfx.com. These traders make a living off of trading. You don't necessarily have to follow there advice, but since they're analyzing technical and fundamental indicators all day long, it's a good idea to at least take their information into consideration. Have Fun!

Tips & Warnings
  • Micro lots are excellent for those wanting a larger account, but are having trouble setting aside the large initial deposit. Deposit the minimum amount into your micro lot every now and then, doing some trading here and there, and once you have the initial deposit needed for a standard or mini account, withdraw the cash and transfer it.
  • Of course, you will probably lose some money, but it's a little more difficult to lose substantially with a micro account. You'll probably see what's going on before you end up losing your lunch money and exit the trade (we are, after all, dealing with nickels and dimes). It's best to make a single trade per day or week to keep your trading account totals intact so you can trade another day. In other words, don't over trade! Shoot for about $100 extra per month with a micro account.

How to start a forex plan

First thing you should do before starting your way to forex success is make a plan. This how to should get you started creating that plan, give you things to think about, and hopefully helping you stick to your plan.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notepad and pen or
  • Computer to type with
  1. Step 1

First you need to decide what kind of trader you are. Scalper? Day trader? Swing trader? Each different type has completely different setups, charts, mentalities, indicators, trading times, etc. The main difference is the length of time each one holds a trade. Scalpers sometimes hold trades for as little as a couple seconds. day trade generally hold trades from a couple minutes to just a few days. Last but not least swing traders hold positions for the long term which could last years. Think about how much time a day you can put into trading. Actually think about how much time you want to put in. That would be the main thing. Don't let trading consume all your time or over trading can consume your equity dry.

  2. Step 2

Pick only a few currency pairs to work with. Study their movements. Think of each one as having a personality. Get to know them. Learn how they react to certain things such as support and resistance levels, news reports, world economic factors, etc. Try to imagine they are a person your meeting for the first time and you want to know everything about them. Thinking this way has helped me enormously. I really don't know if I would be successful today without thinking this way.

  3. Step 3

Once you've done step two of this article picking indicators and news reports should come a lot easier. Be sure to write down everything you are learning. What I did is picked three currency pairs. The EUR/USD, USD/JPY, and the GBP/USD. I made MS word documents for each pair and typed in everything I was learning and continue to learn about the pairs. It will differently start to come more naturally as your progress. You'll start to instantly see price setups, be able to more easily predict movements, and progress from a new trader to a successful one.

  4. Step 4

Whatever you do. Be sure to keep a journal. Write down all your trades. Include the currency pair you choose, the price you bought or sold it, the price you closed the trade, your profit or loss, why you took the trade, and what you could have done better if any. Why you took the trade is actually the most important part of this. You need to have a reason for making a trade. Do no just blindly enter a trade on a gut feeling or in the long run you will lose guaranteed.

  5. Step 5

Hopefully this got you started. Remember just because foreign exchange trading is more easily accessible nowadays does not mean its an easy market to make money. It takes determination, an education, and most importantly time to develop into a successful trader. Thankfully as far as an education goes everything you need can be found on the internet for free.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keeping a journal can both be used to follow your progress and also keep you own self from making mistakes you normally wouldn't have
  • Do not enter trades blindly, have a reason

How to Make Money Online with FOREX

Looking for a big way to make money online or work from home? More and more people are discovering the benefits of working with Forex. Here's how to get free info, free Forex practice, and start your work from home adventure.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet
  • Seed Money
  1. Step 1

FOREX = FOREIGN EXCHANGE. Forex trading is exchanging one type of currency for another. For instance, trading American dollars for the equivalent value of Euro. In this scenario, you are selling American dollars and buying Euros. It is a form of trading that does not involve the transfer of property or assets other than money/currency.

  2. Step 2

MAKING MONEY WITH FOREX. Trading currency for profit is a guessing game, often referred to as 'speculation'. You 'speculate' that a particular currency will go up or down in value. Like trading stock, when you believe a currency is about to go up in value, you move to purchase it at its current low rate. You do this by selling a currency you believe will be of less value than the currency you are purchasing. EXAMPLE: You have $50 US dollars that you believe will be less valuable in the near future. At the same time, you see that the Euro is about to go UP in value. As a Forex trader, your speculations would suggest you should exchange the $50 US for the equivalent value of Euro. If, as you predicted, the Euro increases in value while the
US Dollar does not, you will earn money as your Euros rise. However, if your speculations are wrong, and the US Dollar thrives while the Euro takes an unexpected dive, you will lose money.

  3. Step 3

LEARN ABOUT FOREX. Before you invest in Forex trading, you should have a good idea of the rules. Gain Capital Group's website, Forex.com provides basic tutorials and advanced instruction for traders of all experience levels. Learn about trends and warning signs in the market. Make use of their free resources to make an informed decision about working from home as a Forex trader.

  4. Step 4

PRACTICE FOREX. Rarely are we given the chance to try our hand at making money before we invest. Forex trading is unique in that you have the ability to try it without investing a cent, for as long as a month. To making money online with Forex, visit the link listed in the resources. This will direct you to a 30 day practice session with Forex trading. In this practice session, you will not be using real money, so there is no chance of financial loss if you are not particularly good at Forex trading. Likewise, if you discover your practice investments make money, don't forget that it's not real money. You will not make or lose money with the 30 day free practice session. However, you might discover you have a wildly profitable talent to make money online as a trader.

  5. Step 5

JOIN A FOREX TRADING GROUP. If you are pleased with your results from the 30 day free practice session, and you feel confident about your ability to make money online with real Forex trading, you will have to join a trading group. This is a simple process that generally requires a small fee. Simply perform a Google search for such groups.

Tips & Warnings
  • REMEMBER!!! YOU COULD LOSE BIG MONEY!!! While the practice session uses make believe money, real Forex trading takes directly from your wallet. This is real money and you can REALLY lose it. While the potential for massive gains exists, the potential for huge financial losses is real as well.
  • SUCCESSFUL PRACTICE IS NOT A PROMISE. Even if you have 30 days of perfect practice trading, there's no promise your real trading will always go as well. Even the most successful Forex traders experience loss at times. Limit your investment to reflect a level of financial loss you would be comfortable with

How to trade the EMA indicator in the Forex market

Trading the Forex market is tough hopefully these forex chart indicators will help.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • forex charting software.
  1. Step 1
    MACD forex chart
    MACD forex chart

The exponential moving average EMA and the MACD Moving Average Convergence/Divergence are watched by forex traders to determine the trend of the market. We presently are using a EMA of (20) and (10) as the chart settings for the forex market. We also have been using EMA 9 and 30 to indicate the price move for scalping the forex market but you need a good strong trend for this type of trading. You wait for the cross to happen and the candle close below or above the EMA to place your trade. The EMA puts more weight on recent FX price action.
The Macd proves most effective in wide-swinging trading markets with a good trend. Good charting software will have the EMA and the MACD indicators built into there charting software.

  2. Step 2

An indication that an end to the current trend may be near occurs when the indicator diverges and you see a cross of the trend lines. A bearish divergence occurs when it is making new lows while prices fail to reach new lows. A bullish divergence occurs when it is making new highs while prices fail to reach new highs. Both of these divergences are most significant when they occur at relatively over bought and over sold levels.
Most trader use candle stick charts to trade the forex market and these 2 chart indicators. I like both candle stick charting and tick charts when trading the forex market. You do not want to many chart indicators.

  3. Step 3
Scalping the FX as the 9 and 30 EMA bounce of the 30 EMA with a good uptrend.
Scalping the FX as the 9 and 30 EMA bounce of the 30 EMA with a good uptrend.

When using the MACd indicator you watch for a cross of the 0 line to indicate a new trend might be developing. Macd Crossovers are used to trigger a buy signal or sell signal when the indicator falls below its 0 line. Similarly, a buy signal occurs when it rises above it's signal line. It is also popular to buy/sell when it goes above/below zero.

Tips & Warnings
  • Good forex charting software
  • Be careful at news times
